2020 CAPEL VALE DEBUT SAUVIGNON BLANC SEMILLON – Western Australia (Cellar Selected, £13.95)

A gentle version of this blend, with the Semillon giving a softer and richer element to the palate and nose. This blend used to be more common than nowadays (remember Cape Mentelle?).

2022 LARRY CHERUBINO LAISSEZ FAIRE FIELD BLEND – PEMBERTON (Cellar Selected, £17.95)

Interesting one-off, as all field blends are, of course. Quite light.

2022 ROBERT OATLEY SIGNATURE SERIES CHARDONNAY – MARGARET RIVER (Widely available, £11.50)

A very pleasant moderately-oaked chardonnay from this family-owned winery.

Absolutely classic fresh cherries and strawberries Pinot Noir, light in body and colour, refreshing and delicious.

2018 ROBERT OATLEY SEMAPHORE SERIES CABERNET SAUVIGNON – WA (Widely available, £8.35)

Another straight-bat varietal wine, all the classic Cabernet Sauvignon notes, blackcurrant and blackberries with a touch of cedar-box. Fantastic value!

2021 THE SOCIETY’S EXHIBITION CABERNET SAUVIGNON – MARGARET RIVER (Wine Society, £17.00)

Made for WS by Vasse Felix, on e of the founders of the Margaret River wine industry. An excellent silky example of the grape, elegant and fairly full-bodied, highlights how good WA Cabernet Sauvignon can be.

2022 THE BLIND SPOT SHIRAZ – FRANKLAND (Not sure, £12.95?)

A medium-bodied Shiraz, clearly in the Aussie style but lighter on its feet than the Barossa Shiraz wines. Always picked more ripe that the Syrah style of the same grape.

2013 PLANTAGENET SHIRAZ – MOUNT BARKER/GREAT SOUTHERN (Not sure, £26.00?)

Top-class Shiraz in the slightly lighter WA style, black fruit, black pepper, touch of liquorice and tarry notes, a truly delicious wine. Not cheap but worth the ask.
