A good value lunchtime white but not in the same street as \u201cserious\u201d Soave Garganegas such as by Pieropan and not nearly as expensive either! (Waitrose \u00a36.99)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Villa Flora, Lugana<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Made from Verdicchio rather than the usual local Trebbiano, and a bi of a revelation, with a lovely floral note on the nose and structured white fruit on the palate with excellent depth and reasonable length. Lugana, south of Lake Garda, is a DOC to watch. Excellent value (Waitrose \u00a311.99)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Recchia Bardolino<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Billed as unpretentious, fruit filled and easy drinking, which it certainly was, although also most found it rather thin and a bit trivial. I guess this is the sort of wine that \u201cdoesn\u2019t travel\u201d, better when taking a carafe with lunch alongside Lake Garda! Not liked very much. (Waitrose \u00a38.79, on offer at \u00a36.49)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Masi Campofiorin Rosso del Veronese<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The best wine of the flight by some margin, from the famous Masi Winery. Billed as a \u201cSuper-Venetian\u201d, from a blend of Corvina and Rondinella grapes, first made in 1964, this is the Veneto&#8217;s answer to a &#8216;Super Tuscan&#8217;. Full-bodied with a soft tannin structure, cherry and plum flavours with hints of cinnamon, cocoa, tobacco and vanilla on the long finish.
