A blend of Grenache and Cinsault with a 10% Tibouren for structure, a nice middle of the road gentle but lively fruity number, a bit more to it than some of these Provence Roses<\/p>\n
A charming and interesting blend from the Cher Valley in the Loire, a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Gamay, Grolleau and Pineau d\u2019Aunis. Fragrant and slightly spicy, very much admired.<\/p>\n
There a several very good English Roses around these days and this was one of the best, delightfully dry and fruity with a classy liveliness about it from Pinot Noir grapes\u2013 a favourite on the day and good value.<\/p>\n
Another Pinot Noir Rose, this time from Alsace, very much off the beaten track for this style of wine. Lovely full pink colour and fragrant and generous on nose and palate with lovely quite rich mouthfeel.<\/p>\n
A typical Grenache \u201cbig\u201d rose from Tavel, so different from the lighter Provence style. Deep pink in colour and rich and mineralistic on the palate, a food wine for flavoursome grub! Not the most subtle wine style you\u2019ll ever taste, and with just a lick of sweetness, but a much-admired style.<\/p>\n
Tasted at BWC in May 2017, a wine we have had before and still very delicious, lovely citrus zing and some nuttiness on the palate – delightful.<\/p>\n
Excellent dry Riesling showing lovely floral notes, a hint of petrol and clean citrus fruit. One to enjoy now or keep a few years. A perfect partner to shellfish and fish dishes.<\/p>\n
Tasted at BWC August 2017, this is Roger Marchbank’s own wine from a field blend (mainy Bacchus) grown at Beaulieu rather than his own Coach House Vineyard. Light and delightful, a super summer tipple, a very well made wine, very popular on the night.<\/p>\n
From Guillaume Lagger in Sway. This is a full-bodied white wine from a 228L barrel of Pinot Gris, sourced from Sussex, aged for 13 months on fine lees. This unique barrel brings a nose of ripe fruit, nuts, roasting and a hint of vanilla. On the palate it delivers a rich creamy palette of fruit flavours and sweetness, despite being near-dry (Roger Marchbank. We tasted this at BWC in April and were blown away, this is English! Reminded me very much of the Alsace style of Pinot Gris, quite outstanding! Grapes were from Hidden Spring Vineyard in Sussex.<\/p>\n
A famous Tuscan dessert wine, made from dried grapes, from the historic house of Antinori. It has a relatively deep colour and is intensely nutty, with a lovely sweet but crisp finish. It is traditionally drunk with amaretti biscuits, but can easily be partnered with summer fruits or creamy puddings.<\/p>\n
Top class example of the Georgian Quevri style of orange wines from the Chinuri grape. Iago is considered to be the top winemaker of this style, the winery is spotless and no sign of the \u201crustic\u201d approach for which quevri wines have gained a unfortunate reputation in some quarters.<\/p>\n
A blend of 60% Obaideh, 37% Merwah and 3% Cinsault is barrel fermented (with natural yeasts and minimal sulphur addition) and aged for 12 months in 100% new Nevers oak barrels. Bottled 14 months after harvest and aged in the cellars. Released in the summer of 2020. The 2017 has an intriguing gold-orange-salmon hue of pink and a nose reminiscent of the Chateau Musar white, but with tangerine citrus, rosewater and a savoury, somewhat exotic spice note that continues to the palate with subtle quince and vanilla flavours. Much like the white, it has a satisfying richness and glycerol weight which belies the low alcohol and finishes with a refreshing saline minerality. As the wine ages, its aromatic complexity will develop and enhance, further integrating the vanilla-oak characteristic.<\/p>\n
An ideal aperitif wine, though also suited to seafood, charcuterie and mature cheeses. Serve cellar cool (15\u00b0C), not COLD.<\/p>\n

\nThe deep, full-bodied, intense, opulent, inky\/purple-tinged 2004 Shiraz Election offers loads of toasty oak, blackberry and cassis fruit, smoke, and meaty characteristics. It is a big, mouth-staining Shiraz that fans of Euro-styled, more elegant reds will find too much of a good thing. It should drink well for a decade.<\/p>\n
Made from a blend of six indigenous and international grape varieties, this is a truly distinctive wine, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Tempranillo, Petit Verdot, Graciano and Cabernet Franc, each adding a new dimension and complexity. The grapes were hand picked and aged in a mixture of American and French oak
\nbarrels for 6 -12 months. The result is a full-\u00e2\u20ac\u00a8flavoured wine, with intense berry aromas, beautifully integrated sweet oak and hints of leather and spice. Very good review from Hextable Wine Club.<\/p>\n
Here is a charming, bright expression of the Grenache grape, meticulously made by the team at Domaine Gayda in the Languedoc. Mid ruby colour, aromas are pure and vibrant: crunchy red cherries and fresh raspberries. Palate is medium bodied and juicy, with charming fleshiness and a lively, supple finish<\/p>\n
Lomond, Cat’s Tail Syrah 2011, South Africa 26 months in barrel. Big, ripe, very glossy nose of full black fruit, with chocolate and a touch mint, very big, very \u201cBarossa\u201d in style. The palate has mouth-coating extract, the tannins creamy and rich, with smoke, char and chocolate adding lots of depth and plush weight, but very long and full. CJH Tasted in SA, very good and lush, very Aussie in style. 2012 was Decanter International Trophy Winner<\/p>\n

\nThe dense purple-tinged 2003 Butchers Block (76% Mourvedre, 21% Grenache, and 3% Shiraz) boasts a big, sweet nose of blueberries, flowers, and earth. Structured, linear, and tightly knit, with background notions of fresh mushrooms and tree bark, this is a big, surprisingly voluptuous (for a Mourvedre-based wine) effort, it will drink well for 5-10 years. Tasted at Brockenhurst Wine Club 13\/10\/16 – beautifully smooth and mature, not in your face – VERY good<\/p>\n
Made by Catherine and Patrick Keohane before they sold the winery. We encountered this stunning (95 points, CJH) Syrah at a BWC tasting and sadly, this is the last wine made from these old vines before they wer grubbed up, don’t know why – so this is a little drop of history. Beautiful subtle balanced wine! Made in the Languedoc-Rousillon region.<\/p>\n
Tasted by Matt Walls(at Decanter, London, 01 Apr 2017)) Part of Summer red wines to drink chilled 89 points. Unburdened by unnecessary winemaking and clearly an excellent vintage, this Cabernet Franc has strawberry and raspberry fruit with underlying bramble bush. A healthy dose of crunchy, youthful tannin completes the package.<\/p>\n
Yapp’s Notes – As it happens, I’ve just enjoyed a glass of this! At first its depth and richness catch you unawares, but in due course the tannin\/fruit balance is distinctly impressive and memorable. It will stand up to stronger-flavoured food dishes than may at first be expected. A great value wine, even given the post-Brexit plunge in the value of Sterling against the Euro.<\/p>\n
From southeast spain, the \u2018Piqueras\u2019 label is fast becoming well known for reliable high quality and great value. The older Garnacha vines here (45-60 years) provide oodles of velvety black cherry, damson and spice flavours, with hints of vanilla oak.<\/p>\n
14.5% alcohol. 40-50 year old Garnacha Tintorea (Alicante Bouschet, not the same as Grenache), organically farmed. This is sweetly floral with bright berry and blackcurrant fruit on the nose, leading to a dark, intense palate showing liquorice, meat, mint and sleek black fruits, with a nice spicy, fennel-laced finish and a touch of damson. This is inky and lush, but still has freshness and a bit of tannic bite and a slight bitter twist. Really impressive for the price. 90\/100 \u2013 Jamie Goode<\/p>\n
A really clever wine this and it’s been a huge hit since the first 2008 release. Smart packaging too. Bright berry fruits, a hint of spice , a lick of oak and a touch meaty on the nose. Has a brightness of berry fruit that makes it clearly new world, yet nothing overdone, not too sweet, just really well made, pure Tempranillo fruit with a lick of creamy oak and some lovely spice, tannins are soft and this is good to go! Black fruits and a hint of liquorice too, a touch bigger than previous releases but none the worse for it, really quite delicious and will age a few years too.<\/p>\n
Bring on the tapas or really a whole host of foods; it’s super versatile with the wealth of black cherry and berry fruit balanced by soft tannins, a lovely savoury edge makes this a real winner, great barbecue red too.
